One Year - New Classes and New Goals!

One Year In: Odin’s Hall Is Growing

One year.

When we opened Odin’s Halls, we had a pretty simple goal: build a place where people could come learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, get better, get uncomfortable, make friends, and become a little  tougher than they were when they walked through the door.

We didn’t know exactly what the first year would look like.

We certainly didn’t expect everything to go this well. Starting a gym is hard but building a community is even harder. There are slow months, busy months, unexpected problems, long days, and plenty of moments where you wonder if you’re doing enough.

But then you look around the room.

You see the people who have been with us since the beginning. You see students who started with absolutely no idea what they were doing and are now confidently drilling, rolling, teaching each other, and helping newer students feel welcome.

You see kids who were nervous to step on the mats who now run onto them.

And you realize:

We built something.

Our first year wasn't just about opening a gym. It was about building a community.

And now, as we move into our second year, we're excited to start growing that community in some new ways.

More Ways to Train

One of the biggest things we've heard from our members is simple:

“I want more classes.”

So we're adding them.

Weekend Adult Jiu-Jitsu Classes

We now have adult Jiu-Jitsu classes available on the weekends.  12 - 1pm class and then 1 - 2pm

We know life gets busy. Work, family, school, kids, and everything else can make it difficult to make a weekday class. Sometimes the weekend is simply when you finally have time to do something for yourself.

Whether you're brand new to Jiu-Jitsu or you've been training for years, weekend classes give you another opportunity to get on the mats, sharpen your technique, and get some rounds in.

And honestly, there's something special about weekend training.

There's less rushing around. You get to slow down, learn, drill, and roll with your teammates.

More time on the mats means more opportunities to improve.

A New Kids Class

Our kids program has continued to grow throughout our first year, and we're excited to open up a new kids class time to accommodate even more young students.

This is one of the things we're most proud of at Odin's Halls - Paradise.  Kids Jiu-Jitsu isn't just about learning how to grapple.

It's about teaching kids how to deal with frustration.

How to keep trying when something doesn't work.

How to listen.

How to work with a teammate.

How to be confident without needing to be the biggest or strongest person in the room.

And maybe most importantly, how to learn that being uncomfortable doesn't mean you should quit.

Watching that happen over the course of a year has been one of the coolest parts of building Odin's Hall.

Now we're creating more room for kids to experience it.  5pm to 6pm, every weekday!

MMA Is Here

And for those looking for something beyond Jiu-Jitsu, we're excited to officially have our MMA class open.  Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 7pm to 8pm with our brand new Coach Q.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will always be at the heart of Odin's Halls, but MMA gives our students another way to train and another set of skills to develop.

MMA brings together striking, wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, movement, conditioning, and the ability to put those skills together under pressure.

Whether your goal is competition, self-defense, fitness, or you simply want to learn something new, MMA is another opportunity to challenge yourself and become a more complete martial artist.

And just like Jiu-Jitsu, you don't need to walk through the door already knowing what you're doing.

That's what class is for.

Year One Was Just the Beginning

It's easy to look at a gym and see the mats, the schedule, the classes, and the people training.

But for us, Odin's Halls has always been about something bigger than that.

It's about creating a place where people know each other's names.

Where experienced students help beginners.

Where kids learn to believe in themselves.

Where adults can leave the stress of the day at the door for a couple of hours.

Where you can get your ass kicked, laugh about it, learn something, and come back the next day ready to do it again.

That's what we wanted when we opened our doors.

One year later, we're still chasing that.

We're just doing it with more students, more classes, and more ways to train.

And we're not done growing.

If you've been thinking about trying Jiu-Jitsu, bringing your kid in for a class, checking out MMA, or simply want to know what Odin's Hall is all about, don't overthink it.

Call me. Text me.  My number is at the top of the website.

Seriously.

You don't have to fill out some giant form and wait for a robot to email you back. If you want to talk Jiu-Jitsu, talk MMA, ask about the kids program, figure out which class makes sense for you, or just have questions about what it's like to start training, reach out to me personally.

I'd be happy to talk.

Give me a call or send me a text and let's talk Jiu-Jitsu.

The first year was about building Odin's Halls.

Year two is about seeing just how far we can take it.

Come be part of it.
